Could it be that prices are high because the economy is doing well? Think about expensive cities and countries. They are expensive because their economies are strong. Think about poor cities and third world countries. They are cheap because their economies are weak. Prices are directly proportional to the strength of the economy. Prices are high in strong economies, and prices are low in weak economies. Maybe that is what is going on here. The post-COVID U.S. economy is super strong, and as a result prices are high. The game of politics is tough, but fun and entertaining. Politics entails manipulating the perception of reality. In politics, perception becomes reality.
Opponents of the current administration claim that the current economy is bad because prices are high. What would those same folks say if they were in charge? They would highlight what is going well, and blame everything else on their opponents. All political parties in the world do the same thing. Take credit for whatever is good. Blame others for whatever is bad. The far right blames immigrants. The far left blames capitalists.
MAGA King Spin
Imagine if Trump was still president. He would say that high prices are a sign of the strength of the U.S. economy. After all, he grew up and became a developer in one of the most expensive cities in our country and the whole world. New York City has a strong economy and prices are super high.
Trump would point out that the U.S. dollar is at a 20-year record high signaling how the world sees mighty strength in the U.S. economy. He would stress that home prices are at a record high with homeowners having record high equity levels. He would stress that the level of personal debt is at the lowest in decades. He would state or imply that people who cannot afford gas or basic necessities are just losers. Maybe they should enroll in Trump University to learn the art of a deal.
If his supporters were unhappy, he would blame all problems on democrats, liberal policies, and immigrants. He would take the United States out of NATO to help Putin make Russia great again. He would request more and more power under the promise of saving America and making it great again.
