We are choosing if we want to continue being a free, democratic country, or if we want to turn into an autocracy. The vast majority of the population will be okay either way. It's just a matter of whether you prefer freedom or captivity.

China and Russia
China is an autocratic country that is producing more wealth and more billionaires than the United States. Since the 1970s, China has been growing economically faster than our country. This year may be a rare exception where the United States' economy will grow faster than China's.
Russia is an autocratic country that produces tons of wealth and oligarchic billionaires with super fancy lifestyles. Russia is the only super power that is actively seeking to expand its territory. Russia is already the largest country by land mass in the world. Putin's invasion of Ukraine may extend Russia's territory even more. The occupied lands are about the size of Pennsylvania or Ohio. That's a good chunk of land.
Autocracies vs democracies
There are about 50 autocratic, non-democratic, countries in the world including Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, most Middle Eastern countries, and most African countries. By land mass, the majority of the world is under dictatorial regimes.
If the United States becomes an autocratic dictatorship under Trump, under any other MAGA leader, or any communist leader, the balance of world power will shift to autocratic regimes. Many countries would follow suit. Arguably, democracy would gradually cease to exist. That would not be the end of the world. It would simply be the end of the "free" world; of the end of democracy as a viable form of government.
Democracy began in ancient Greece, but it was not a true democracy back then. It was not a one person / one vote system. It was a one Greek man / one Greek vote system. Slavery was legal in ancient Greece. Women, non citizens, and slaves were not included in the "democratic" experiment of ancient Greece.
What is better?
It is hard or impossible to know if the United States would be a better place without a democracy and under an autocratic dictator or a king. The MAGA crowd seems convinced that a "good" dictator wannabe, their MAGA king, would be preferable to a non-MAGA democratically elected president.
It is not clear if the MAGA crowd supports democracy anymore. The MAGA king attempted a coup on January 6th, 2021. Congressional hearings to expose the conspiracy begin tonight. The MAGA crowd does not want to hear anything about it.
The plan for the coup consisted of claiming that the elections had been stolen by opponents. For the plan to work, the Vice President and the majority of the Supreme Court would have to join the conspiracy. The Vice President would refuse to certify the results of the presidential elections. Lawsuits would be brought in key swing states for the MAGA packed Supreme Court to eventually find a way of certifying the MAGA king as president.
The MAGA coup was a pipe dream of a desperate dictator wannabe and his troubled advisors. The plan required many other key players to join the conspiracy. Vice President Pence did not join the conspiracy. The MAGA coup failed.
Is the MAGA team right? Is autocracy better than democracy? No one knows for sure. Politics is a power game based on emotions rather than reasons. Opinions matter more than facts. Many of us would not trade political freedom for cheap gas, social control, or anything else. However, billions around the world live under autocratic regimes and the world keeps spinning.
MAGA vs MADA
Regardless of our opinions and preferences between democracy and autocracy, the fact is that every political action brings a reaction. The MAGA movement is bringing together a counter movement that we call MADA: MAKE AMERICA DIVERSE AGAIN.
The MAGA team seems focused on "whiteness". Whiteness is about believing that everything anglo is always superior to anything non-anglo. Consciously or unconsciously, the MAGA team wants to preserve the cultural traditions that they perceive as "white" while rejecting any nonwhite "pollution".
The MAGA crowd prefers the idea of living enclosed within a border wall with everyone thinking the same way, without immigrants, and without the United States involved in foreign affairs. Whiteness is a close cousin of racism, but is not exactly the same. Blacks and others are welcomed to join the MAGA team provided that they adhere to the dogmatic belief of anglo cultural supremacy.
The MADA teams is focused on diversity. Diversity is about believing that leveraging our differences make us a stronger and wealthier Nation. Consciously or unconsciously, the MADA team wants to become stronger and wealthier by leveraging the diverse talents of different people from all over the world.
The MADA team does not see anglo culture as superior or inferior to any other culture. The MADA team does not respect traditions. Santa Clause can be black, latino, LBGTQ, or AI provided that it brings cool gifts and games. Everyone gets into the melting pot with their own weirdness to make everyone else stronger and wealthier.
