Happy 4th of July!
Being an American is about loving freedom. To be an American is wanting to be free. To be an American is not wanting to be ruled by a king or by a totalitarian government. America is a social platform for the pursuit of happiness and freedom. Our insatiable thirst and hunger for a good life is what defines us as Nation. As we celebrate the 4th of July and our Declaration of Independence, let's remember our commitment to fight for freedom.
July 4th, 1776
Our Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. The American Revolutionary War had began a year earlier in 1775, and lasted seven more years until 1783. In July 1776, the rebels signed a proclamation declaring the United States of America a free nation no longer owned or ruled by the king of England. This was part of an effort to gain popular support for the war.
Not everyone was in favor of the war back then. About a quarter of the colonists were hard core loyalists to the British Crown. About a quarter were hard core patriots. About half of the population was undecided. Both the British Crown and the Patriots played information wars trying to convince the general population to support either the colonial status quo or the revolution. There was no radio, TV, or social media back then. The press, the church, town hall meetings, and word of mouth were it.
Revolutionary War
The American Revolutionary War was not easy. The British Crown won important battles, and even had the chance of capturing or killing George Washington and his army. That was during the battle of Long Island in October of 1776. General Howe, commander of the British army, opted to let George Washington go free and let the rebel forces retreat.
Howe's hope was that GW and his folks would change their minds and become loyalists to the crown. George Howe was wrong. GW regrouped and the patriots grew even stronger. Eventually, in 1783, the British Crown gave up and conceded the loss of the 13 American colonies.
Constitutional Government
in 1788, twelve years after the Declaration of Independence, and five years after the end of the Revolutionary War, the American leaders of the times (over two hundred years ago) ratified our Constitution. The main purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to safeguard our freedom.
The U.S. Constitution is there to protect all of us from falling under a king or dictator. The Constitution splits federal government power in three separate branches, and reserves to the states all rights not ceded to the federal government. The Constitution promotes the rule a law, and the equal protection of all citizens under the law.
MAGA Anti-constitutionalism
The Constitution is just ink on paper (or digits on a computer) unless brave people are willing to defend it. That's why we make all our leaders swear an oath to defend and uphold the Constitution. Defending and upholding the Constitution is how we preserve our freedoms and avoid falling under a king or a dictator.
The MAGA movement is an anti-constitutional movement to the extent that it supports Trump or anyone else to become a quasi king or unelected dictator. Trump orchestrated an armed attack against the Capitol to overturn the will of the people. The MAGA crowd wishes to ignore the event so that long may live their MAGA king. We the people must indict Donald J Trump to avoid that anyone else tries an insurrection ever again.
Awakening a Giant
When Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008, the dormant giant of racism woke up in conservative America. A brown colored skin liberal had been elected President. The Constitution had failed the conservatives who felt betrayed and abandoned. The Constitution could protect them from a king, but not from their worst fear, a black president.
Conservatives reacted to Obama the same way that conservatives reacted to the other brown skinned liberal who changed the world about 2,000 years ago. JC was a queer liberal changing the conservative religion of his time and region. Conservatives woke up, gerrymandered popular opinion, and swiftly moved to crucify JC.
Lucrative Racism
Racism is a socio economic system based on the social construct of "race". All humans are members of the same race, the human race. However, ancient Europeans found it convenient to declare their pale or beige colored skin, hair type, and other traits to be a different "race". Racial discrimination proved extremely profitable for Europeans, allowing them to rationalize the exploitation, colonization, and genocide of other countries and other "races".
Since our country was founded by descendants of Europeans, racial exploitation, colonization, and genocide are a significant and fundamental part of our history. Without killing the "indians" and enslaving Africans, the colonists would not have had a chance of having a country. As Trump tells his MAGA victims, the fundamental question for MAGA is whether or not they can have a country. The best part of human history in general is that it is the past. The second best feature is that we can learn from it to avoid its atrocities.
Confederate Grudge
Racism is a very "sweet" and addictive treat to the brains of the "race" obtaining the benefits and privileges. What kid doesn't like candy? Most racists are blindsided into racist indoctrination as children. It begins with forcing them to believe in the god of the desert, and forcing them to believe that our history was "great".
When raising racially privileged children, no one tells them that their privileges come from exploitation, colonization, and genocide. "John and Mary, remember that we are privileged because our "race" murdered, raped, and enslaved the others," said no one to a beige colored child.
For the system to make sense you have to rationalize it first. You have to portray your race as "great" and the other "races" as evil. You have to believe in a god that not only allowed a "race" to be superior, but who also wanted it that way.
MAGA racism
MAGA is a modern day white supremacy movement. The main difference from white supremacy movements of the past is that MAGA allows blacks, latinos, and other non-whites to join and even lead their ranks. The only requirement is the creed of whiteness. You can be black, brown, or whatever and join MAGA provided that you are a conservative fighter of the pro-white, anti-immigrant, ultra right wing agenda.
Obama lives rent free in the skull of every MAGA folk in America. None of their fears about Obama materialized. The guy ended up being a class act. Obama proved that an American from Kenyan descent can be as good as a president than an American from English descent. Obama proved that we are all Americans regardless of where in the world our ancestors may have lived before.
A good sport
American politics can be seen as a sport. Hard core fans and fanatics of a team are never ever going to abandon their team loyalty and switch sides no matter what. The would rather burn the field and destroy the rule book than accepting a loss. Those mega or MAGA hard core fanatics tend to make the most noise, but are always a minority, especially when everyone realizes how dangerous they may be.
The vast majority of Americans can be good sports in the sense of playing to win, but accepting defeat if it comes. After all, we all live in the same country and there will always be another game, and another one, and another one. Sore losers like Trump who orchestrated burning the house down after losing, must be banned from the sport for life. If they violated the law, they must be prosecuted.

Enjoy the day, and even the polluting fire works later this evening. It's just one evening. Life will go on. This sports of politics never ends. It is a necessary evil so to speak. Those of us who can remain patient and composed have the best chances of enjoying the game for the long run. Those of us who believe in diversity and inclusion know that we are more and that our team (Team Diversity and Inclusion) will win if we all participate.
